I went to Tupelo, Mississippi this past weekend to audition for a film called “Traffic Report”, which is being produced by Little Bo Productions. The plot is about a televangelist whose son is kidnapped. I read for the televangelist part. Sort of a Joel Osteen type character. I think I read well for it.
The funny thing is I was intending to head for a basketball game in Oxford, Mississippi after the audition. So I stopped at a hotel to change clothes (I had to wear a suit to the audition, and I was eager to get out of it), when, lo and behold, there was another audition at the hotel. This one was for a commercial that will be shown in the Tupelo area. Tupelo, a city where you can walk in anywhere and there’s some sort of audition. That’s what I call cosmopolitan.
I decided to drive around the town and see what it was like. Nice, clean, and vibrant downtown area. A really nice arena and conference center (sponsored by Bancorp South). Good food. Home of “the kang” Elvis Presley. You can’t get directions at a convenient store because the attendants hardly speak English (true statement, like everything else I talk about :p). That’s what I call cosmopolitan.
And apparently Toyota’s building a factory somewhere nearby, so that’s going to be a boon for the Tupelo economy. All in all, a nice place to visit and probably to live.
