Like two flailing corporations. Like two feudal lords who wished to gain more power and prestige. FOX News, along with many other news services, has decided to marry two hot topics to make a claim that’s a bit of a stretch, in my opinion.
Arson jihadists, hm? Terrorism, hm? Please, that is so early 2000′s.
Now if the news reported that the Al-Qaeda had to cut jobs because of the collapse of the world economy, then I would say the story had some merit to it.
However, I think this is the result of the media wanting to save money on paper and ink by merging two stories together. That way they could make room in the periodical for what Britney Spears did last night.
So why am I bashing this story so? Because it’s just another example of the media trying to slant a story to incite fear into the people. And there’s no escaping this bias either, no matter who you are. If you’re a conservative, you can be rest assured that FOX News will ease, or confirm, any sort of anxiety you may be having. If you’re liberal, then the networks and CNN is the place for cold, hard facts.
Oh, yes, the liberals are guilty of this, too. For example, in President Obama’s press conference yesterday, he made claims that this is the worst economic times we’ve seen since the Great Depression. FEAR! While this may be true, there’s no way of knowing this for certain until everything has played out. However, he and the Democrat party have nothing to lose by hyping up how bad the economy is; after all, if it does become as dire as the Great Depression, they can easily say that the Republicans were to blame for the insurmountable odds.
Don’t misunderstand; I support President Obama, and yes, times are hard.
However, if we’re going to use fear tactics, let’s not focus on theory. Rather, let’s ask some legitimate questions, such as “Where are we seriously going to get the money to pay for the stimulus package?” and “How long is this recession going to last?”
By the way, those two questions aren’t questions I’ve posed. That is me quoting several people I know who are all asking the same thing. Perhaps our government and the media should listen, rather than speculate on “Arson jihadists” and “the worst time since the Great Depression“.
VERY GOOD STORY
