So I’m auditioning for a short film today about the battle that pitted Rome and Germania together. I don’t what’s more peculiar about this experience: the fact that this was one of the few key battles that Rome lost, or that they’re filming this tale in Mississippi. Either way, it should be interesting.
I actually know the man that’s producing it, Edward St. Pe’. We were in a play together at New Stage Theatre. The show; A Christmas Carol. That was awhile back. I think the boy bands and Britney Spears were still en vogue at that point. There was even a place for rap music in the world. That’s going WAY back.
Gotta another audition coming up next Saturday in Memphis. This one’s about the Vietnam War. It’s called Pink Town Guess who’s directing it? That’s right. Mr. Vietnam himself; Oliver Stone. Bruce Willis is suppose to be the star of the film. He was pretty good in Hart’s War. The movie’s gonna be filmed in Thailand, so if I get a part, I’ll be there for several weeks. Here’s hoping.
These movies I’m auditioning for are all about war. Not the Mel Brook’s “Springtime for Hitler” kind of war, but the grave side. Controversy, suspense, loss. I guess that’s what comes with war. But there’s also victory. Vince Lombardi was the man who said:
I firmly believe that any man’s finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle – victorious.
But you have to go through the battle to get to that point. Or in my case, the auditions. If I get the role this week, I’ll be a Roman or Germanic soldier. If I’m a Roman, I’ll be saying,
When in Rome…
If I’m get cast as a Germanic barbarian…
AAARRGHH!
