Politics in these Roaring 2000s

January 9, 2008

I‘m usually wary of expounding on the subject of politics. It’s an extremely volatile subject that can somehow cause people to dredge up feelings they didn’t realize they had. And one wrong minuscule word can cause an implosion that will rearrange your face…and not for the better. The people who are in this profession are well aware of the dire consequences of their choosing this profession and are well-equipped for it. If this is what you choose, then that’s your prerogative.

But I must say that I find this election intriguing so far. Barack Obama pulls off a major upset in Iowa, then Hillary Clinton pulls off a major upset in New Hampshire. Mike Huckabee wins a shocker in Iowa, then John McCain works a miracle by still being relative in the race. There’s a lot of upsets going on. It’s all unpredictable. However, the one constant theme that is tossed around by all of the candidates is ‘change’.

Apparently, there are a lot of people in this country who are not happy with the its condition. Uncertainty lingers in the air like Chinese food left in your car overnight (but not quite as pungent, as I speak from personal experience). Maybe that’s what makes this race so interesting, that a clear-cut winner hasn’t stepped forward. The agent for change has not been selected by the American public. Maybe no one’s convinced yet. Maybe everyone’s convinced, but life is so mundane they need to get their excitement somewhere. What could be more dramatic than a tight political race…

I could name several things.

Writer’s Guild strike
Jamie Lynn Spears
Their Facebook page
The BCS controversy in college football

After all, let’s not forget that we live in a land where people are more concerned about these things than they are about the Election of 2008. Politics has to do something to get ratings in the hysteria we call mass media.

Speaking of mass media, I’m going to be in a film shoot this weekend in a movie called Orbis Romanus. This is the movie that in an earlier blog I labeled Saturnine. The reason for this is because the title was changed, not because I’m an obsessive liar and hypocrite (something that also seems to happen frequently in mass media). Anyway, as soon as I get photos of the shoot, I’ll post it on this site. Ciao.
