Last night I visited with some old friends. It was really good to see them. Went through some hard times with those people. Went through some good times. You gotta have both good and bad times I think. It solidifies your relationships.
If it’s always good times, you end up in a world like Pleasantville or something like that. Everyone smiling all the time. With teeth or no teeth. Just happy. Content. I don’t want to be satisfied. It’s nice for a moment, but then it quickly becomes not enough.
If your times are always bad, then you get real depressed. I don’t want to be depressed either. But I’ll say this for depression and what it does for you that satisfaction won’t. It strengthens you and gives you intestinal fortitude. After years of being a New Orleans Saints football fan, I know all about strengthening.
These old friends of mine are spread throughout the country now. Perhaps the world soon enough. And I think our friendship will continue for a long time. Although I enjoy my new friendships, I believe I’m more in favor of old friendships. There’s history and richness in them.
So this post is for my friends, old and new. You are dear to me. To my old friends, let’s keep our relationship fresh, even if we don’t see each other often. To my new friends, let’s enjoy whatever moment we share together, so that one day we can become old friends.
