Keep Dreaming

September 17, 2008

Remember that extra gig i wrote about several weeks ago? On Monday, that event came to pass.

Keep Dreaming is the name of a series about people who work for a catering company as a temp job, while trying to pursue other ventures (acting, etc.). The project I was cast in, that’s being filmed this week, is a pilot episode.

For those of you wondering what the difference between a pilot episode and a regular episode is, the pilot is what the writer/producer(s) use to pitch their ideas to networks; the story line usually involves introducing the main characters and their environment. And anybody who’s ever watched television can tell you what regular episode is. There are other technical differences when it comes to finances, but that topic goes beyond the scope of this article.

My role was an impatient guest waiting on a drink (Vodka Tonic) at a party the catering company was serving.

I got to meet Greg Phelan, the writer/producer of the show. He had nothing but encouraging things to say about my endeavor into the world of film. ‘Just do it…’ was his charge.

And that’s important. One doesn’t realize how many people really are trying to break into showbiz until they come out here. I’ve only been out here for roughly a month, and there isn’t a day that goes by where I don’t meet someone who wants to be an actor or a writer.

But it’s like what my Belhaven theatre professor, and dear friend, Dr. Lou Campbell said, “You’re not an actor or writer, unless you act or write.” Very true. And ‘keep dreaming’. That’s important, too.
