They say that Rome wasn’t built in a day. However, if you’re throwing a party tomorrow, and your house isn’t clean, you can’t afford to be Rome!

Several weeks ago, I went to a friend’s house for a party she was throwing. Not only was it a great catching up with some people I haven’t seen in awhile, I couldn’t help but notice how clean her house was, and I commented on it. My friend let out a laugh and told me I should have seen the place the day before.

After recovering from the initial shock, I was inspired to discover on how someone could organize their space in such a quick amount of time. Cleaning your pad for guests may seem like an insurmountable task; however, if you stick to the following principles, cleaning won’t seem that arduous. Heck, it may even be fun!

Start out by deciding what type of party you’re throwing and base your game plan on that decision. A cookout will have different cleaning requirements than a formal dinner, etc.

Choose which rooms are the most important to clean. The kitchen, foyer, and living rooms are obvious choices. Make sure you clean your restrooms! For all you guys looking to impress girls at your party, don’t fall short in that area.

The most glaring sign of messiness is clutter on the floor. If it doesn’t belong there, pick it up!

One way to save time is to block off rooms that won’t be necessary. Close doors to guest bedrooms, and if you see someone wandering there, politely let them know that room is off limits.

Depending on the size of your living space, get a friend to help you out! Having someone to talk to makes time fly by much faster. Just make sure you invite that friend to the party. ;)

Investing in sweet-smelling fragrances, such as potpourri, incense, and flowers can behoove as well, especially if there are any odors you want to cover up (pets, etc.)

One other thing to keep in mind is remembering why you are cleaning your house, and that is to have a great time with your friends. When you’re at your party and all your friends are complimenting you on your place, all that hard (and fun!) work will have paid off. Party!
