California Unions and Their Laws

As I’m getting more and more acquainted with the Golden State, I’m learning about many of the restrictions and guidelines that are in place here. In fact, I was on the road to Cali when I found out about the smog inspection they perform on cars. If you don’t pass the inspection, it’s quite a hefty fine, I understand. Fortunately, I have a relatively new car, so this scenario was only a brief rollercoaster of emotions, not a long Alpine ski drop. (So a quick word to the wise, if you plan on moving to California, make sure your car meets California regulations.) Anyway, perhaps the biggest change I’m adjusting to are the labor laws. Mississippi, being a right to work state, didn’t have the auspices of a union overseeing all the industries. In fact, the labor law in Mississippi goes something like this:

Wandercast

I would like to announce that I’ve received yet another online writing gig. Wandercast, an up and coming travel guide website, has hired me to write about interesting landmarks and attractions for aspiring tourists, whether you’re going to New York City or Xanadu. As of this printing, the site is under development, but when it hits the market, make sure you visit before you make any travel plans. After all, touring can be a risky proposition, and you know the old saying:

No knowledge is not power.

Or something like that.

Keep Dreaming

Remember that extra gig i wrote about several weeks ago? On Monday, that event came to pass.

Keep Dreaming is the name of a series about people who work for a catering company as a temp job, while trying to pursue other ventures (acting, etc.). The project I was cast in, that’s being filmed this week, is a pilot episode.

For those of you wondering what the difference between a pilot episode and a regular episode is, the pilot is what the writer/producer(s) use to pitch their ideas to networks; the story line usually involves introducing the main characters and their environment. And anybody who’s ever watched television can tell you what regular episode is. There are other technical differences when it comes to finances, but that topic goes beyond the scope of this article.

My role was an impatient guest waiting on a drink (Vodka Tonic) at a party the catering company was serving.
